As a young boy, Matt showed an unusual interest in photography and in his parent's photo albums. His first yellow, underwater Minolta accompanied him everywhere. It was through that simple lens that he learnt to capture the sublime beauty of nature.
Matt’s love and delight in his surroundings is evident in his work. He captures and reveals the expression and detail that is seldom evident to the naked eye. His images are alive with emotion and movement; he enters the world of that image and allows us a glimpse of his excitement, his humour, his soul.
His mentors, close friends and travel opportunities have all influenced his approach to his work over the past 20 years. He is passionate about his photography and always has been. The love he has for his work, the people and places that he encounters along the way is apparent in the detail and perspective, in the stories he tells in his photographs.
Matt Porteous has won UK awards for Sports, Travel and Wedding Photography....
Max's creativity has been the foundation of his studies through school and into University, excelling in Art, Design and Architecture. His journey into photography started during the years spent studying Architecture at University. Travelling around Europe through beautiful atmospheric spaces enticed Max to pick up a camera, as he found that this was the best way to graphically and visually record the surroundings. His tutors would encourage them to 'draw what they saw', but his sketches left a lot to the imagination and never did any justice to the incredible atmospheres and spaces that he explored.
Max believes that studying architectural details, spaces and textures has helped shape and define his style, as well as pushing the documentary approach by harnessing the available natural light and building a story of discovery from the finer details to the people and expansive landscapes.
This precise eye for detail and passion for all things technological is evident in Max's skill for digital editing and retouching. Portrait photography is becoming a fast developing speciality, capturing people's personalities and characters on location, and in the Studio.
Throughout his life Luke has had a keen fascination in art. His path naturally led him to study and excel in Fine Art and Design in both high school and at college. It is here that he gained insight in to the world of the Royal Marines and developed a fascination with and the need to understand war.
He has since harnessed his combined experience and education in multiple creative fields with his free-diving and military career, to embark on a calling in creative production and exploration. His desire to portray the raw truth, authenticity and beauty of all situations led to further studying and he has recently rounded off his education at the London MET Film School, studying Film Production and Documentary Filming.
His ethos is to show the world as it truly is and to inform and challenge people's thinking, allowing them to make well-informed judgements. In the vast flow of our fast moving society, communication and teamwork has never been more critical.
Luke's commitment to high standards of quality, integrity and creative innovation, sets him apart in the world of filmmaking and production.
As a dancer in some of London’s most iconic musicals including Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, On The Town, White Christmas and Hello Dolly as well as dancing with Sarah Brightman’s European Tour, Rebecca Lee’s career has taken her all around the world. You might even have spotted her as part of the cast in Mama Mia the movie, as well as presenting on Nickelodeon.
As a photographer, Rebecca brings a creative eye, natural energy and a keen sense of artistic storytelling to her work. ‘To me, the best thing about photography is being able to find someone’s story and capture it in a single moment. That’s what truly inspires me.’
‘It’s hard to find another career that gives you such artistic freedom and enjoyment as dance. But to me, being a photographer is very close to the creative focus and energy you feel as a dancer. It’s essential to translate the raw beauty and emotive storytelling of a shoot through your lens, and be poised ready to capture that key moment. In dance it’s the climax of a performance, for example where the dancer jumps so high they look as if they’re never coming down.’
The most memorable part of her career has been the people she’s met along the way. ‘You just can’t underestimate the importance of good relationships and surrounding yourself by like-minded people, stunning places and beautiful art that inspires you - that’s the key to constantly growing, improving yourself and your skill.’
Rebecca made the move from dancer to photographer in 2014 when she first arrived in Jersey, working alongside Studio_M.
